Six Indian Casinos Facts
So, why would you want to join an Indian casino site? What makes these so popular with gamers and, in some circumstances, the best casinos in the United States? Take a look at some of these points to find out some facts about Native American platforms.
1. They Use Their Profits for a Good Cause
Native American casinos don't' just take all the profits they generate for themselves. Both casinos and bingo halls held by Indian tribes have provided funding for some big projects within the United States. This has included funding for housing, medical, social services, education, and various other resources. And the tribes get to benefit from those profits through these good causes.
2. They Influence the Employment Rates
Today, more than 300 gaming operations exist across the USA, run by the country's Native American tribes. Many live as Vegas-style casinos, featuring slots and table games inside. This came about thanks to the introduction of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988. Four years after tribes opened casinos, employment increased by 26%, and the tribal population also increased by around 12%. Of course, this resulted in an increase in employment to population ratios of five percentage points or about 12% in its own right.
3. Indian Tribes Aren't' Taxed on Gambling Revenue
Casinos owned by Native American tribes are exempt from paying the same tax that those licensed by each state are forced to. While exempt from federal taxes, any tribespeople employed by the Tribal casinos has to pay federal income tax on their earnings. Should tribes transfer or distribute any gaming revenue to their members, those payments are also subject to federal income tax.
4. Tribal Casinos Have a Different Vibe
There is a different experience to be had by attending a tribal casino when compared directly with other casinos. While both of these may proceed with offering you additional perks, such as nights in hotels for free or meals and drinks included with entry etc., the clientele and general experience overall will vary.
If you were to visit a casino in Las Vegas, you would see people visiting from all over the world. It's' a very touristy place to experience, and people visiting the casinos often spend a lot of money to enjoy their vacation properly. When it comes to Native American casinos, these are frequently visited by locals who live close by. For example, it's a calmer atmosphere than you would experience if you visited Vegas or Atlantic City.
5. There Are No Common Regulations at Tribal Casinos
Unlike traditional casinos operating within a state, which all have to follow their obtained licence rules, tribal casinos differ significantly. Each Tribe can set its own rules relating to its casinos. Tribes retain the authority to conduct, licence and regulate class II gaming.
Gaming regulations need to be approved by the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) before an establishment can start operating in such an away. But there aren't any common regulations that dictate how every tribal casino should work.
6. Their Profits Are Greater Than Those of Vegas
Even though the tribal casinos have a much more relaxed atmosphere than that experienced in Vegas, their profits tend to be much higher than the bright lights and noise. By 2017, the annual earnings of Native American casinos stood at around $32.4 billion – a 3.9% increase from the previous year.
Comparing that with the Las Vegas Strip at $17.8 billion for the same timeframe, that's a massive difference. Especially when you consider that the Vegas figure includes payments for staying at the city's expensive hotels and food and drinks. Focusing on gaming alone, Las Vegas only brought in $6 billion in 2017.

Our Thoughts on Tribal Casinos
Indian casinos are the most widely spread throughout the United States compared with commercial casinos. These establishments provide a much more flexible gaming option when compared with the larger setups in Atlantic City and Las Vegas, for example.
And despite this being the case, they frequently generate larger revenue, which is utilised for the good of the tribal communities. We think that these casinos provide a fantastic route toward entertainment, and some of them even provide online gaming services, too. So, why not visit one of the local tribal casinos in your state?
Indian Casinos FAQs
Do you have any questions about Tribal casinos and Native American Gaming
Are all casinos owned by Indian tribes?
Not all of them. Some casinos in the United States of America are commercial properties that are licensed by their individual states, but a large portion of them are tribal establishments.
Which states have Indian casinos?
All U.S. states have Indian casinos to visit except for Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia.
What are Indian casinos called?
The casinos possessed by Indian tribes are usually known as casinos, just like any others. However, they are always on Indian reservations or other tribal lands.
Where does Indian casino money go?
Revenue from Indian casinos is put towards housing, healthcare, education, social services and other assistance for tribal people.
How come Indian casinos don’t have sportsbooks?
While Indian casinos were established thanks to the Federal Indian Gaming and Regulatory Act of 1988, the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) was brought into effect. This stopped sports betting from being approved or sponsored by tribes or states. Once this was overruled in 2018, each state introduced laws surrounding the legalisation of sports betting. While some have, none of the regulations caters specifically to tribal establishments.
Why are Native Americans associated with casinos?
When the average American passes by a tribal casino, they will frequently associate such with Native American people. And this is because the laws of the country gave Indian tribes access to the gambling scene, whereas everyday Americans could not provide such services under the law. Tribes were given the right to open casino operations, even within U.S. states where gambling is outrightly banned. So, for many years, tribal people were operating legal casinos on their reservations when other Americans could not.
What is the real story of Indian casinos?
In 1988, Congress passed the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA), signed by President Ronald Reagan. This kept tribal sovereignty to create casino-like halls, but the states and Natives must be in Tribal-State compacts. The federal government also has the power to regulate gaming. This came about because Native Americans in various locations were extremely poor and did not have much land due to neglected treaties in the 1850s. Therefore, the tribe people turned to casino operations, bingo halls, and poker halls to make money. Yet, the authorities shut down these, and it took a long time for them to be sorted out via the act above.
Do Native Americans meaningfully profit from Indian casinos?
In general, yes, they do. How beneficial such is depends upon the reservation location and the casino(s). As noted, these casinos do tend to make more money than the big-name ones in Vegas and the like. Yet, unlike those private commercial casinos, the profits from Indian casinos go directly into the hands of the tribe, and these profits are utilised to benefit the communities in housing, education and so on.
